Four films starring Hollywood legend and method actor Marlon Brando. In 'On the Waterfront' (1954), Brando stars as ex-boxer Terry Malloy, who becomes involved in corrupt dockside politics through his lawyer brother Charley (Rod Steiger), an employee of gangster union boss Johnny Friendly (Lee J. Cobb). When Terry witnesses the murder of a union worker by Johnny's thugs, his conscience begins to trouble him. He meets the murdered man's sister (Eva Marie Saint), and learns from Father Barry (Karl Malden) that the dead man was about to expose Johnny's illegal activities. Father Barry then tries to convince Terry to provide the evidence required to put Johnny behind bars. The film won eight Oscars, including Best Actor for Brando. In the classic biker movie 'The Wild One' (1953), in which Marlon Brando famously responds to the question 'What are you rebelling against?' with the retort 'What d'ya got?', a gang of motorcyclists, led by rebellious Johnny (Marlon Brando), ride into a small California town and terrorise the inhabitants. Johnny falls for the local cop's daughter (Mary Murphy), but a rival in his gang (Lee Marvin) and the hostility of the townspeople create too many tensions for anything but a violent climax. In 'The Ugly American' (1962), Brando stars as a publisher who is appointed ambassador to a small Asian nation in the throes of a communist insurgency. His arrival leads to an escalation in the fighting. Finally, in the western 'The Appaloosa', Brando plays a lone wanderer returning home with some hard-earned money and a valuable horse (the Appaloosa), planning to settle down and start a stud farm. Unfortunately, the horse is stolen by a crazy Mexican bandit. This begins a long-running duel between the two men - from which, needless to say, Brando finally comes out on top. read more For only 34.99 GBP ![]() Shop: DVD Popcorn Category: Classics SubCategory: Classics LastUpdated: 2006-11-07 03:54:08 Four films starring Hollywood legend and method actor Marlon Brando.
